Hawawshi
Crisp baladi bread packed with spiced beef, sweet onion and a warm chili edge.
Ingredients
- 2 pcs Baladi Bread
- 300 g Ground Beef
- 1 pcs Onion
- 1 pcs Green Bell Pepper
- 15 g Parsley
- 3 pcs Garlic
- 1 tbsp Tomato Paste
- 1 tsp Ground Cumin
- 1 tsp Ground Coriander
- 0.5 tsp Chili Flakes
- 0.5 tsp Black Pepper
- 1 tsp Kosher Salt
- 1 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 1 pcs Lemon
Method
- In a large bowl, combine {ground_beef}, {onion}, {green_bell_pepper}, {parsley}, {garlic}, {tomato_paste}, {ground_cumin}, {ground_coriander}, {chili_flakes}, {black_pepper}, {kosher_salt}, and {olive_oil}. Mix firmly until sticky and well bound so the filling cooks evenly and stays juicy inside {baladi_bread}.
- Split {baladi_bread} to form deep pockets without tearing, then press in the filling in a thin even layer all the way to the edges for full coverage and faster cooking.
- Set a heavy skillet or sheet pan in a medium oven. Brush the outside of {baladi_bread} with {butter}, bake until deeply golden and crisp, then flip once so both sides brown evenly and the {ground_beef} reaches full doneness inside.
- Rest the {baladi_bread} briefly so the juices settle, then cut and serve hot with a squeeze of {lemon} to brighten the rich filling.
